AR Rehman Wins the Oscar :) .... time to pull up our socks

Bollywood music has come of an age finally …. From a time of hiding musicians following the actors during the shooting of a song to this current era of fast song with techno beats and chorus done by a couple of rappers . There were various stages our music went through in this journey to Oscars. Initially actors had to sing their scores themselves there were no back ground singers. After most of the hiding musicians got hurt due falling in pits or rolling over stones while running behind actor, came an era of sound recording. Recording brought the idea of background singers. But because of technical limitations they had to get a song right in one go. So the music didn’t have much of variations. Then came an era where music could be recorded separately and then came lyricist to write lyrics that go with the music and then came in the singer to fill in his/ her sweet voice. That’s when we got the idea of adding background score to a movie. The music you hear in songs today goes through many-many iterations. One for base music, then for chorus, then to pitch in the techno, then rapping then singer and then remixing it again …

Toady AR Rehman winning two Oscar has not just proved that he is a good music maker. It also proves that bollywood music is ready to be liked by the world. Rehman has been making awesome music all while long it’s just that world has taken notice of it just now. And with this huge acclamation there will be huge traffic of music lovers looking upon bollywood music. So it’s time for all the other music makers of India to pull up their socks.

Billo Barber or Billo

Though officially director Priyadarshan changed the name of the movie to billu but I guess this movie will always be known as billu barber.

Billu barber is a regular bollywood movie with all the masalaa. It is a full five course gourmet meal cooked by Priyadarshan and Gauri Khan(read as Shahrukh Khan) . This meal contains very spicy chutneys called Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra. Specially grinded for making the main attraction Shahrukh Khan more attractive.

The main course has Lara Dutta in a non garnished (read as non glamorous look), simple homely village chapatti look. This can be best digested with a non fizz, water like drink called Irfan khan. For starters there is an assortment of many comedy fried villagers in different shapes and sizes.

For dessert we have melodious Pritam blended with Gulzar, Neeraj Shridhar and Sayeed Quadri.
This meal was served on Feb. 13 in theaters near you . Enjoy the meal

Slumdog Millionaire - Climax

Why do you think Salim killed himself in the end of the movie in a bathtub full of money. What is the Significance of this act ? .

I think it is because he knows his brother's life has turned out to be much better than his own. Jamal has love of his life , is almost a millionaire , has a clean job . Though both of them started together. They landed in totally different roads . So this bathtub full of Money signifies his battered ego , his only consolation. In a way he is telling all that "i also have money" . What do you think ?

Dilli 6

Dilli 6 is Rakesh mehar’s 3rd movie. Yes he is the one who made rang de basanti, which came like a breath of fresh air in bollywood. Before that he had directed AKS starring Amitabh Bachchan, which is better if forgotten.
Some movies carry a flavor of a particular city like MunnaBhai MBBS was a bombayia movie. Dilli6 is set in gullies of Old delhi. So I am expecting the dilli language, attitude.
The music of the movie is done by Golden globe winner; Oscar nominated our very own AR Rehman. The title song is has become hit already. There is something about the pigeons and hindi songs. They work well together.
Abhishek is supporting his usual ruffed, unshaved, jean jacket look. Sonam kapoor is looking very different. Though not much is changed look wise from her previous movie sawariya. But now we can see some emotions on her face. We can see her free, naughty, lively, bubbly spirit.
The promos look promising this movie should do well. It might not reach rang de basanti’s mark but at least it won’t be a flat flop. Just my prediction…… Let’s wait n watch if it comes true

Waiting for Dev D

This movie commonly known as modern devdas story. There are very high expectations from Abhay Deol. Abhay has always played very believable, common man characters. So audience is eager to see how a common man “devdas” will react to the situation.

Anurag Kashyap’s has promoted the movie using strange means if you know what I mean ………… don’t know!! . well he has got custom made condom packets as Dev D franchise . If this was not enough movie has got enough press about the Poster. See it here
Everybody is saying that trailer of the movie was awesome but the poster killed it. Some sultry dialogs mouthed by one of the actress of the movie have become quite rage, the song “emotional attaychar” is climbing the charts with speed. (Well at least one positive publicity). But as they say any publicity is good publicity. Let’s see what the movie has got in store for us.

If you watch it before me please enlighten all of us

LuckByChance

This movie gives us an inside peek into film studios of Mumbai. It portrays the life of many aspiring actors who come to Mumbai the dream land leaving behind parents with a pre - planned career for their kids. We have two sides of coin shown here
1.Sona , the character played by Konkana Sen, a runaway girl wanting to be a top actress ends become a merely junior.
2.Vikram, the character played by Farhan Akhtar, a nobody, an acting institute trained gets his big break in a big banner movie with a stupid star kid. How he plays along with the daughter of a vintage superstar who thinks he is in love with her. It’s kind of funny to see the mom & daughter playing tug of war for the same guy.

There is also a small side of the coin to show what kind of pressure star kids go through, how an upcoming actress has to maintain herself.

The movie also showcases the two face personality which everybody in the industry needs to have to survive. The movie is trying to focus on too many things of the industry & people in it. That’s why the storyline its flow .Not enough justice was done to any aspect of the industry, So it just looks like a movie about making if another movie.

Zoya Akhtar has done ok for a first timer but certain things could have made the movie better
1.Should have better utilized the time spent on rishi kapoor , sanjay , juhi, , and her sister , her husband . They were given too much coverage.
2.The struggle of Farhan akhtar did not come across like struggle. It looked like he got his break pretty easily may be in first try.
3.The tantrums of Dimple Kapadia dint need this much coverage.
4.The marketing of the movie initially started showcasing "Baawre" song. That song has some mismatch …… the choreography & the music just doesn’t get along. Don’t you think so?

Ghajini

Nice movie with all ingredients of a hit bollywood movie. Accepting this movie was like a bumper lottery hit by Asin. She has really got into the character of Kalpana. Kalpana who defines adjectives like the beautiful, sweet, cute and obviously over the top helpful girl. And Amir Khan has also succeeded in displaying the style of a celebrity, cuteness of lover and the agony of a short term memory loss patient. The Action was also power packed especially to see a 6 something feet , hugely build villain go flying in the air by one punch of our 5 something Hero.
But that chemistry between two lovers was missing in the movie. I think the movie needed some more scenes displaying romance between the Hero & Heroin. Audience could not get a feel of their love and in turn did not feel much for Amir’s lost love. We could not relate to that pain.
One love song of them together would have done the trick. What say ?

Oye Lucky Oye

I recently watched Oye lucky Oye movie. I would not say, it’s the best movie I watched, but there is certainly something about this movie.
It has the feel of Delhi, the shooting locations, the dialogs, the attitude of the protagonists Abhay deol and Neetu transports you directly to those bustling market streets of Delhi.
You can almost smell the samosos being fried somewhere far. You will be able to hear a small street brawl going on between an uncle on his loaded with bajaj scooter and a rikshawala with school children. Somewhere close you can hear, aunties bargaining with a vegetable vendor.

The movie in particular has no designed storyline or screen play. It’s just like a snapshot of the life the hero lives. Just few glorious moments taken out of his happy days to make you happy.

Similar movie was bunty & babli. No prank of theirs was shown completely, but only a quick peep in there notorious, nomadic, freaky life. These movies act as a chill out factors in our lives to remind us to Chill & Live life as if there is no tomorrow

Slumdog Millionaire Review

Well Slumdog Millionaire is made it big , real big . But many people say “what is so different about Slumdog Millionaire” Well things which worked for slumdog Millionaire are

1.KBC Element : Kaun Banega Crorepati Indian show with same format as “Who wants to be a millionaire” This Show itself was big hit in India. Housewives used to wrap up dinner before KBC, husbands were coming home early to watch KBC (and prepare themselves for it). Kids were allowed 1 hr of extra TV for raising the bar of their general knowledge. It was KBC all over because everybody wants to become one and this was the easiest way

2.Love Element: Everybody loves to see love around them. The moment a love angle is involved people start to relate to the movie. They go in this flashback times of their first crush, first date, those happy days of schools or college just run like a movie in front of your eyes.

3.Tragic Twists Element: Poor Jamal has no father, Losses his Mother in riots, his brother betrays him with his soul mate. Love he found in latika which at every turn in movie looks like not meant for him. You always have the suspense “Will he get her ? “ or whenever the love birds are together in movie for more than 1 min , you know something is going to happen . In fact I was expecting that maybe after Jai ho song they both will be killed by may be Anil Kapoor

4.Sympathy element: all while long in the movie brothers were shown standing in face of worst things that could have happened to anybody. But how they survived out if it brings a smile to your face.

5.Flashback Narration style seems to work most of the time .Adds the suspense you see…

So it’s basically perfect blend of all these things with music of AR Rehman. The music is blended with movie so well that if you hear the tracks you will not be able to tell which sequence in movie used this track .

How It All Started

Hi all, so I am also finally pulled into "blogging”. So the first question that came to my mind is “what should I blog about?” Technology … Nahhhhhhhhhh. I want to write something about what I feel very strongly about , something I enjoy and something others will also have interest in reading.

Writing my personal feelings was never the option because I am not open book especially not on the internet. Though snooping on somebody else’s life is pretty interesting thing ;) I wanted to write on a topic which runs in every Indian. Obvious answer is Cricket, but if I HAD to write on cricket on a gun point, I think it will be filled with questions on Indian cricket team, team members, cricket game play etc etc.

Next answer I think is Bollywood (not a much appreciated word by the fraternity), Tollywood (Tamil), sandalwood (Kannada), TV shows or just ENTERTAINMENT. So here I am writing about ENTERTAINMENT.
